Bollwerk
WIR in Wiesbaden
Across Europe, right-wing and conservative movements are gaining strength. Germany, too, is facing the significant rise of a right-wing populist party that is classified as definitively far-right in several federal states. While protests are taking shape in left-leaning major cities and large numbers of people are quickly rallying together, efforts to defend democracy in other regions face their own challenges. Especially in the rural areas of eastern Germany, advocates and activists working against the far right must repeatedly contend with backlash on social media and in the streets. This ranges from insults and hostility to physical attacks and death threats. “It’s easier to shout ‘Nazis out’ where there are no Nazis,” the Chemnitz band Kraftklub once sang. But how easy is it to shout “Nazis out” where they actually show up?

GUTS: A Female Expedition Through Africa
Surf Film Nacht
Patrizia and Marie left everything behind and embarked on a five-month, 20,000 km off-road journey from France to Guinea-Bissau—with nothing but an old car, four surfboards, and a mission: to capture the stories of inspiring women redefining their place in society across Northwest Africa. What happened on that long and dusty road was pure magic. From the first female mountain guide of Morocco to the women’s rights activist in Nouakchott, or the young surf collective in Dakar, they all showed that when women dare to break free from conventions and listen to their own voice, a revolution begins—not just for them, but for their communities, their countries, and the world.
