Pippi is a cheeky nine-year-old girl with freckles, whose red hair is braided into two pigtails that stick out. She lives with her guenon, Mr. Nilsson, and her gray horse, Little Uncle, at Villa Villekulla on the outskirts of a small town. According to her own account, her mother is dead and her father is a king on a South Sea island. Pippi’s neighbors are the children Tommy and Annika, who accompany her on her adventures. Pippi embodies all the qualities that children wish for. For example, she can go to bed whenever she wants and lift her horse with ease, since she’s the strongest girl in the world. She lives without parents and can therefore do whatever she pleases. She’s incredibly clever, even though she doesn’t go to school, and she couldn’t care less about adult authority. That’s one of the main reasons why all children think Pippi is absolutely great!
